What does it take to be called intelligent?
We could not deny that in this contemporary world, many of us would ask what are Report Card grades are. Yes, we can’t blame them for thinking that our school grades speak for our intelligence. But what hurts even more is that we are called dumb or bobo if we commit a mistake grammatically or practically. Wow, look at him, is he that intelligent to just judge other people? That’s the real dumb. Maybe, this mentality was brought by the colonizers most specially the Spanish and the Americans who introduced the formality of Education in the country. Its like when you speak loud and clear; most specially when you speak in English, you’re high. You’re smart. You must be respected, you’re intelligent. To analogize in the society, english-speaking people are the Aristocrats, we who speak native are indios. Why should we look down to people who don’t do well in school? Are grades the real basis of real intelligence?
It’s just that some people do not think broad enough to realize that these people who are winning the school race could not excel when it comes to practical living or when they are brought to a new environment. They would just clung to their old values and stubbornly refuse to let go. Where is intelligence on that? Intelligence can be referred to our critical thinking, logical reasoning and practical abilities. Who’d excel in life who doesn’t even know how to sweep the floor? Who just knows how to command her nanny and watch the television?
If I could just change the society right now and make us all smart. Smart; people who have open minds to understand a rant like this. Who could actually understand the point why I’m writing and telling this. Who would actually understand that I’m not that smart but I’m writing this for the sake of those who’re really smart.
